The Spectrum Center Advocacy board works with the Director of Spectrum Center and a student co-chair to affect real change on the U of M Campus. This group of dedicated students targets specific policy change in order to create a positive and safe environment for all LGBTQA students.

LGBTQ Ally Bystander Intervention Workshop Tuesday, May 14, 5-8pm Through active engagement in this workshop, participants will experience increased confidence and motivation to act as an ally and will develop enhanced skills for intervening in a bystander situation. The training is open to all members of the community (regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity), and LGBTQ allyhood is explored within a broad social justice framework. By participating in this workshop, you will be joining a support network of LGBTQ allies across campus, and your actions will help promote an environment where there is always somebody to "step up."
The Spectrum Center understands that college is often the time in which students begin to explore their identities and come out to peers, friends, and family members. Whether you are just beginning your coming out process or are well into it, the Spectrum Center has ample resources and a knowledgeable staff to help you through this time.
The Jim Toy Library (JTL) supports LGBTQA student development by exposing students to, and engaging them in, the rich cultural, social, historical, psychological, political, and relational aspects of LGBTQ people, identities, experiences, and communities.
Jim Toy Library - Named after the co-founder of the Spectrum Center, the Jim Toy Library offers nearly 2,000 materials, including books, magazines, and DVDs.

In 1971, two quarter-time employees walked into a closet-sized room in the Michigan Union and taped a simple sign to their door. The sign, scribbled in black sharpie, read “Human Sexuality Office.”
