The University of Michigan Spectrum Center opened in 1971 as the first sexuality office for students at an institution of higher learning in the United States. The Center continues as a national leader through our support, education, and advocacy programs. National organizations such as Campus Pride and BESTCOLLEGES.COM continue to recognize the University of Michigan as a top institution for LGBT college students. It is through the synergy of academic excellence and student engagement that the University of Michigan LGBT student experience prepares leaders and best to make meaningful change in the world.
