Thank you

On Giving Blueday, dozens of friends and alumnx came together to support University of Michigan students and Spectrum Center's work to provide them with the tools and resources that will allow them to flourish.

Over the course of 24 hours, 49 donors collectively gave $5,465 to Spectrum Center through a special crowdfunding page. Numbers are preliminary at the time of publication, not yet reflecting any contributions made through Michigan Online Giving—but already they surpassed figures from Giving Blueday in 2024, with both the number of donors and amount raised up, 20% and 60% respectively. The center's goal was $5,000.

"I am so, so grateful for each and every one of these gifts," said Jesse Beal, Spectrum Center's director. "Thanks to you, our friends, these donations will be dedicated to programs supporting the wellbeing, belonging, and success of students of all sexualities and genders—programs that are more important than ever. Thank you for standing with LGBTQIA2S+ students."

Funds raised on Giving Blueday will be directed to grants for students experiencing financial hardship because of their sexuality and/or gender, and student projects seeking to enhance campus climate and experiences. Some examples include:

  • Financial assistance when a student loses financial support from family or guardians due to their gender or sexuality
  • Unexpected medical expenses or fees related to gender or sexuality
  • Co-curricular event hosting and supplies
  • Student organization initiatives

U-M's annual day of giving may be over, but Spectrum Center serves University of Michigan students year-round. To learn more about our work and make a gift, visit our Giving page.
