In a Bind? Let's Do It Safely

Interested in finding ways to make your chest look flatter and feel affirmed in your gender? Join us for an interactive workshop on safe binding using chest compression and TransTape. In a community-style discussion, we'll discuss safe binding tips and tricks, resources, and try-ons—plus, you'll be able to take home resources! Registration required—see full linked description.
 

Let's Have a Ball: LGBT History Month Kickoff

[Registration required] Spectrum Center and the LGBT History Month planning committee invite you to a kickoff for our month-long celebration. This LGBT History Month kickoff will emulate the kiki ballroom scene and provide historical context and personal experiences. The audience will be immersed in the show - get ready! Light refreshments provided.
 

Tucking into Fall
October 11, 2023  |  5:00 - 6:00 p.m.

[Registration required] An interactive workshop and safe tucking tutorial with Dee Church. Church is a trans-centered therapist focused on sexual well-being, trauma, and non-traditional relationships, with lived experience. In a community-style discussion, we'll also discuss how to safely tuck and mitigate risks.
 

Pronouns 101 public workshop
October 18, 2023  |  10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

[Registration required] A 2-hour workshop on the basics of pronouns and their usage put on by the Spectrum Center. Participants will have the chance to practice using different sets of pronouns and work on bystander intervention skills. This is open to the campus community including students, staff, and faculty.
 

The Politics of Desire in Higher Education—A public talk by Dr. D-L Stewart
October 18, 2023  |  6:00 p.m.  |  UMMA

[Registration required] Dr. D-L Stewart is professor and chair of the Higher Education Department in the Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver. Over the course of his faculty career, he has focused most intently on the history and philosophy of higher education and the institutional systems and structures that affect the experiences, growth, development, and success of racially minoritized and queer and trans* students in historically white postsecondary institutions. Co-sponsored by UMMA and the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education.
 

Center Awareness Day Open House
October 19, 2023  |  1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Join Spectrum Center for an open house on Center Awareness Day, and to celebrate the grand reopening of the David Bohnett Foundation CyberCenter. Learn about the center, meet the staff team, get connected with other students, get resources, play games, get prizes, and enjoy light refreshments.
 

Towards Solidarity public workshop
October 30, 2023  |  10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

[Registration required] A six-hour workshop that aims to deepen our U-M community's understanding of, and ability to engage with, LGBTQIA2S+ allyship. In Towards Solidarity, we move beyond basic conceptualizations of allyship and challenge participants to center liberation as they show up actively for LGBTQIA2S+ communities.
