The Spectrum Center Gender and Sexuality Essential Needs Grant is available to all currently enrolled students at the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor who are experiencing hardship related to their gender and/or sexuality.
Students are able to request up to $500 in essential needs funding per semester up to $1,000 in one academic year (including fall, winter, spring/summer terms).
If you are seeking emergency funds, the best place for you to start is the Dean of Students.
Eligibility
To apply for funding, needs must be:
- Non-urgent
- Related to gender and/or sexuality
Applicants must:
- be currently enrolled at U-M
- provide proof of cost
Process and timeline
Applications for winter 2025 will be accepted starting January 27.
From start to finish, we intend for this process to take no longer than a couple weeks.
- To get started, complete and submit our short form.
- Spectrum Center staff will reach out to arrange time to connect.
- With a completed intake and followup, center staff will make a funding determination and inform you as soon as possible.
- If approved, staff will also share next steps and keep open communication about the process as it unfolds.
