Alongside our major Welcome to Michigan event, Pride Outside, the Spectrum Center also hosts a number of smaller welcome events in September for specific student populations. The exact format of these events changes year to year, but each one is meant to allow new and returning students to meet and socialize in a more relaxed environment and connect based on shared identity. Currently, we host a graduate student mixer and a QTBIPOC student welcome.

Observances and celebrations

For decades, LGBTQIA2S+ communities have been celebrating and highlighting specific communities and the topics important to us through annual observances and celebrations. Here, we list special dates that we often recognize through events.

Although these celebrations are recognized nationally and internationally on specific dates, our community is encouraged to engage with these communities throughout the entire year to learn more about the traditions, beliefs, histories and experiences of our LGBTQIA2S+ friends, colleagues, peers, and educators.

We recognize that this is not an exhaustive list as these celebrations may change over time and be customized to fit the needs of the U-M community. If there is an observance you’d like to see the Spectrum Center commemorate, reach out to us at [email protected]!
