Organizations are at the heart of the student community. Student groups across campus, registered and informal, have brought their peers together, created lasting friendships, and generated new knowledge and experiences.

Ahava

Ahava is the Jewish LGBT group on campus, and is sponsored by Hillel. Ahava allows the community to explore LGBT and Jewish identities in a safe, open environment. The group's goals include advocacy, providing a social space for these communities, and sponsoring initiatives including discussions and lectures on issues relating to the intersectionality between LGBT/Jewish identities.

Notably Black and Gay

Notably Black and Gay is founded on three tenets: fellowship, education, and activism. Notably Black and Gay is committed to creating an inclusive community, queering our university’s space, and creating cross-campus relationships. Notably Black and Gay acknowledges the importance of education in constructing and understanding your racial and sexual identity. It is not enough to simply be gay so Notably Black and Gay recognizes education as a core tenet. Notably Black and Gay strives to equip our members with accurate history, language, and everyday tangible ways to make social change to further improve the black queer community.

Spectrum Center Programming Board

Spectrum Center Programming Board is a volunteer leadership opportunity and sponsored student organization of Spectrum Center, supporting major Spectrum Center events and hosting its own unique programming. Programming Board's goal is to create opportunity to develop and organize events that are LGBTQ+ student-centered and have input on Spectrum Center initiatives. Members gain skills around event planning, facilitation, outreach, and activism. Students of all fields and programs—undergraduate, graduate, and professional alike—are welcome.

The Michigan Gayly

The Michigan Gayly: LGBTQ+ Issues" is the only student newspaper at the University of Michigan dedicated to exclusive coverage of current events, politics, opinions, and entertainment related to the LGBTQ+ community. This publication is a celebration of queer existence and is entirely staffed by queer/trans UofM students. We're looking for writers, artists of all mediums, and students interested in podcasting/sound design.

Alliance for Inclusion (School of Dentistry)

Alliance for Inclusion, housed in the Dental School, aims to educate dental students, staff, faculty, and dental professionals about lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender issues in hopes of encouraging awareness, as well as providing perspectives in treating LGBT patients. The organization hopes to foster a welcoming environment for LGBT students, staff, faculty, and patients at the Dental School.

GoSTEM: Graduates Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

Through organizing, mentorship, and networking, our mission is to provide a space for LGBTQ+ graduate students and post-doctoral researchers at the University of Michigan to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another. LGBTQ+ Nursing is a student-led organization focused on building connections among LGBTQ+ nursing students, faculty, and others interested in healthcare. We work to make nursing education and practice more inclusive. All UM students are welcome to join.

Networking, professional development, social activities and activism opportunities for undergraduate and graduate LGBT students in the STEM community. We're an organization dedicated to building a community for LGBTQ students in STEM fields and providing them with resources on navigating their identities in a professional setting.

Out for Business (Ross School of Business)

Out for Business builds community among the LGBTQ+ students at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business and raises awareness among Ross faculty, staff and students of the issues facing LGBT individuals in society. OFB has a chapter for graduate students and a chapter for undergraduate students.

Out in Public (Ford School of Public Policy)

Out in Public is the LGBTQ and ally group at the Ford School of Public Policy. We seek to create a welcoming space for LGBTQ people at the Ford School, engage the wider Ford School community in dialogue about LGBTQ issues and connect with other LGBTQ groups across campus. Bachelors students, Masters students, PhD students, faculty and staff are all welcome.

OutLaws (Law School)

Outlaws is a student group at Michigan Law that advocates for the inclusion of LGBTQIA+ perspectives within the law school, and works with allies within the school and beyond to end discrimination in all its forms. We sponsor numerous educational and social events throughout the year, keep the law school community informed on legal issues affecting LGBTQIA+ rights, and raise the visibility of LGBTQIA+ people within the legal profession. Outlaws pursues its educational efforts in solidarity with other student organizations. Outlaws also provides a dynamic social space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community at the law school.

OutMD (Medical School)

OutMD seeks to create a safe space for LGBTQ identified persons and Allies within the medical school and bring awareness to the disparities LGBTQ identified persons face in the health care setting as both patients and providers. We support these aims by hosting regular meetings, organizing lectures and panels, and sponsoring students to attend conferences related to LGBTQ health disparities. For the school, our activities will create an inclusive atmosphere and provide important knowledge for future physicians when caring for this population.

OutPH aims:

  • to promote the voices of LGBTQ+ students within dialogues at the University of Michigan, with a focus in the School of Public Health; to promote an inclusive and intersectional LGBTQ+ community among the School of Public Health students, faculty, and staff;
  • to create a safe space for conversation and individuality among LGBTQ+ students;
  • to create a collaborative effort with other values-based student organizations at the School of Public Health, Rackham Graduate School, and all other schools and colleges within the University;
  • to educate and inform the community about current topics and issues focused on LGBTQ+ rights, culture, or health;
  • and to make a welcoming environment for all School of Public Health students, faculty and staff, with a focus on LGBTQ+ persons.

QT Psych at The University of Michigan was founded in 2016 by a group of graduate students who were interested in creating an inclusive space for queer graduate students in The Department of Psychology. Our mission is to create and foster a community for LGBTQ+ individuals in the department and foster a community of academics that promote queer scholarship in our sub-fields and across campus.

Queer-Straight Alliance of Robotics strives to establish community and provide resources for students in Robotics whose experiences have been impacted by gender.

As part of this mission, we aim to:
