Every year in November, we celebrate Trans* Awareness Week on campus. During this week, student organizations and the Spectrum Center put on programming that raises awareness, celebrates, and honors trans* identities and experiences.

Our Transgender Day of Remembrance Ceremony took place on Wednesday, November 20. Transgender Day of Remembrance is set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred, prejudice, and violence. Transgender Day of Remembrance serves to raise public awareness of hate crimes against transgender people, as well as to publicly mourn and honor the lives of our community members who might otherwise be forgotten. This year, the Spectrum Center brought a team of walkers to the Ann Arbor AIDS Walk. Our team was able to raise just short of $500 to go toward HIV/AIDS research and resources in Ann Arbor!

On September 23rd, members of the bisexual community and their allies observed the annual event Celebrate Bisexuality Day (CBD). Founded in 1999, CBD is dedicated to celebrating and bringing visibility to bisexuality and similar identities as separate from the larger gay/queer community. Although bisexuality often seems just an afterthought in the acronym LGBT, members of the bisexual community face their own unique set of struggles and experiences.

On May 1, our office celebrated the Grand Opening of the David Bohnett CyberCenter with an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony. Speakers included: Director, Jackie Simpson; Vice President for Student Life, Royster Harper; Video Team Lead, Evan Hoye; Founder of the David Bohnett Foundation, David Bohnett; and Alumni Relations Coordinator, Allie Harte.

My name is David Clair; I am a Gay Cisgender male at the age of 19. Just this year I got the opportunity to experience MBLGTACC for the first time. Attending This Pro Equality and Social Justice Conference helped me to remember. Remember my voice and the extent of the power and potential it contains. I was allowed to wonder often, and I did. The space given definitely left a mark on my Conscious, a mark that will remain.

Starting this month, the Spectrum Center will be hosting a series of Brown Bag Skype sessions bringing students and alumni together. The first session of AlumniConnect will be held on Wednesday,October 24 from 11:30am-12:30pm in the Spectrum Center lounge. The alumni featured for October is Barbara Timmer.
